It's no secret that COVID-19 and the fallout from it has led to a decrease in tax revenue for municipalities of all shapes and sizes. That means governments will be looking to trim their budgets, leaving vital services and offerings in an underfunded position. Couple that with a general desire to find inspiring and positive stories out there, and we've spent a lot of time as a team thinking about the importance and power of nonprofit organizations of all shapes and sizes.
There are thousands of orgs all across the globe doing incredible work, so narrowing things down was tricky. But each member of our team managed to pick one nonprofit out there that's especially near and dear to them, and that they were eager to give a shoutout on our blog!
Check them out below.
NONPROFITS OUR TEAM LOVES
Robert, Catalyst's CEO & Co-Founder
...is particularly fond of Many Hopes: "I used to be a board member and Catalyst has produced two of their annual fundraisers." The Kenya-based organization provides homes, schools, and essential support services to children suffering from extreme poverty and abuse. And it helps create business opportunities to continue funding these projects in perpetuity.
Abbie, our VP of Operations
...wanted to find volunteer opportunities for her family when they first moved to Texas. "This can be difficult as most have minimum age requirements, but thankfully we found Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB)!" It checked all the boxes for Abbie and her kids—it's a big organization that offers countless volunteer opportunities for families throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and through its food pantries, gardens, classes, and more, aims to empower communities to eliminate hunger.
Nelam, our Director of Business Development
...is a huge fan of the work being done by To Write Love on Her Arms. "I think this was the first nonprofit I ever truly did my research on. It was formed when I was just starting college, and it was a reality check that people the same age as me were going through so much struggle." Today, the nonprofit works to present hope and find help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.
Dylan, our Creativ Director
...hopes to draw attention to the essential work of the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. "I have volunteered in the distribution and sorting center for the last seven years at Second Harvest; it's one of Wisconsin's largest hunger-relief charities." The organization addresses hunger in a variety of ways, including food pantries, food rescue, school pantries, summer resources for families who rely on school breakfast and lunch, and more.
Justin, our Director of Strategy
...points to Austin, Texas-based Partnerships for Children as his favorite nonprofit, an organization that provides additional aid and support to the entire Child Protective Services departments of Austin and Waco. "Partnerships for Children is dear to my heart because every child deserves to be taken care of."
Haily, CatalystCreativ's Graphic Designer
...lists the Sierra Club Foundation as her favorite nonprofit, for the NGO's involvement in global conservation efforts. "They do notable work for the environment by encouraging clean energy and land protection and getting people outdoors." Since its founding in 1960, the Sierra Club Foundation has helped fund successful lobbying to preserve various national monuments, shift away from coal energy, and more.
Libby, our Social Media Intern
...is passionate about the work performed by the ACLU. "The ACLU is near and dear to my heart because of the amazing historic work they have done for civil rights in America. Also, I minor in political science, so this kind of work is super interesting to me." The ACLU has a national chapter, as well as chapters in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
And Paul, our Copywriter, who wrote this blog and is feeling strange about referring to himself in the third-person
...strongly believes in the mission of Earthjustice. "It's a nonprofit public interest environmental law organization, that recognizes the need to codify environmental protections. If somebody can pollute legally, or via some weird technicality, they will—so you have to make sure bad actors can be legally punished."
Donate if you're inspired to do so, or let us know about your favorite organizations, and the important work they're doing right now.
We're always looking for new causes to get behind!
